What is Desktop Virtualization?
Desktop virtualization is a fundamentally different way of looking at an organization’s computer use. A ‘desktop computer’ is a machine fully capable of performing necessary functions on its own. A virtual desktop, then, can be thought of as a system which can appear to perform all of those functions without the use of an actual computer. This is achieved through performing the necessary functions on a central server, but accepting input and presenting output for those functions on a simple terminal, which may be little more than a screen and a keyboard. Desktop Virtualization provides the functionality of a desktop computer without having to provide the computer itself.

While traditional desktops rarely keep pace with software for more than three years, terminals can remain in use for more than a decade, and last through several server upgrades and even complete replacements.
Security and Focus – The server-client access model is far easier to maintain and monitor. All server usage can be logged in a central location, and desktop functionality can be directly limited to those functions related to an employee’s role in an organization. This enhances productivity by removing access to distracting applications and internet usage.
